SHELTER

Our Shelter is home to many cats and dogs. We employ an application process to screen our potential adopters.

This process is to ensure that the adopter and the adoptee are compatible and that both animal and humans have the best opportunity for a successful relationship.

FOSTER CARE

Our Shelter receives many kittens and puppies that are just too young to thrive in a shelter environment and need the tender loving care of human attention to give them a good start. Some of these young ones come in with mama and litter mates, some are found abandoned and all alone. We take care of all medical care for these fosters. All you need to do is provide a warm, safe home with lots of kibble and hugs until they are old enough to be adopted

EDUCATION PROGRAM

The HSMC's education program is two-fold: We have a training program for our dogs to teach them basic manners and commands to help them adjust to their new home upon adoption; we also have Animal Education programs for the public, especially school age children. Children learn how to care for and be safe around animals. Our volunteers utilize a range of materials including videos, activity books, suggested reading material, etc.

To have our Education program volunteers speak to your group or organization, to have someone speak to your group about volunteer opportunities, or for more information about becoming a part of our Education Team, contact our Executive Director at 352-873-PETS.

ALL PETS MEMORIAL PARK

Sit back and relax in All Pets Memorial Park. As you sit in the gazebo, listen to the crepe myrtles rustle in the soft breeze and be soothed by the gurgling fountain. "Paws" to remember your lost pets or just let go of the stresses of life.

You may also want to consider becoming a donor by the purchase of any of the items contained in the park. These items are available at different price levels and once purchased, you, your pet, or your family's name will be inscribed permanently for all to view.

A new service for HSMC members is the availability of hosting events at the park. With a sound system and lighting for nighttime events, it's the purr-fect place to purr-ty. Join us for an evening in the park and visit our website for upcoming events.

Purina Pets for Seniors Pet Scholarship

The Humane Society of Marion County participates in a very unique adoption program. The Humane Society will be able to waive the full adoption fee for those individuals who are 60+ years of age and are looking to adopt a pet. Potential adopters must still meet all the HSMC adoption criteria.

This program will connect senior citizens in need with animals who need love. Clinical evidence indicates that pets help people stay healthy. People with pets have lower blood pressure, fewer heart attacks and less illness. They live longer and happier lives. There are a limited number of adoption scholarships available. If you could benefit from this program or know someone who may, please visit our shelter. We're sure you'll find a friend for life.

This program is made possible by the Pets for the Elderly Foundation and Purina Pets for Seniors Program. For more information about PFE or Purina programs; or to find a participating shelter in your area please visit one of the following sites:
