Thrift Store has Goods for All

The Thrift Store opens from 9:00 A.M. until 5:00 P.M. Monday thru Saturday. The Thrift Store can be reached by phone at 352-732-8424. In addition to a full function outlet, they pick up quality furniture and small appliances. Also while they are there they will take household items, books, jewelry, clothing and toys, etc. What a great way to get rid of your old furniture when replacing it with newly purchased furniture.

Get a better Deal on an already Great Price

Here is a little tip on how to get an even better deal on an already great price at the Thrift Store.  Each quarter the Humane Society of Marion County prints a newsletter called the "Paw Prints". If you are a member of the Humane Society you are probable getting this newsletter in the mail. If you are not a member, you can still pick one of these newsletters at the Animal Shelter. In the newsletter each quarter you will find a coupon that will provide an additional discount over the already low price at the Thrift Store. These coupons are usually valid for several months.

Good News from the Humane Society Thrift Store

Greetings from all the staff and volunteers here at the Humane Society Thrift Store.

I’m Chip Hinson and it has been my pleasure to be your Director of Thrift Store Operations since the 2nd week of January.

I have to start off by saying “Thank You” for some wonderful support from both my staff and from you the volunteers. Without this we could not have done what we have in just such a short time.

There have been some wonderful changes in the past few months that we are excited to report to you today.

First is the look and feel of the store. We have painted the old girl both inside and out from battle ship gray to some wonderful warm colors and have departmentalized the store to better help

people find that “certain treasure”. Organization is key to happy shoppers and so far we have received some wonderful reviews from our more frequent shoppers. We are working on getting some large pictures of kittens, cats, puppies and dogs to decorate the inside and outside of the store, to update the look and to also remind everyone what we are working for, the health and happiness of the shelter animals.

We built a 2nd dressing room for the clothing shopper and have started some special departments such as our Harley Davidson leather and motorcycle corner, the denim den for the blue jean shopper and soon we will have a boutique section filled with some wonderful higher end  ladies clothing that we have had donated.

We held the pricing of the merchandise low for affordability during these difficult economic times but at the same time managed to upgrade the

quality of the merchandise.  People are telling their friends the good news which as an end result, helps the animals.

Come by and ask what our daily specials are for we want to live up to the slogan of  “everyday is a sale day”.

We want to thank everyone who has donated to us, so many wonderful things, and want all of you to continue to do so with the knowledge that you’re helping to support the shelter.

Now, I want to pass some exciting news to you about what we here at the thrift store have been doing with some special donations we have been receiving over the course of the year.

We have received a lot of walkers and wheelchairs as well as other home medical supplies. We have worked out with the Veterans helping Veterans program to get these  vital health aids to the less fortunate at no cost to them. We have also extended a helping hand to the Marion county seniors program with the same items. In this trying time we need to help the people who helped us when we needed it.  For everyone who is reading this; please continue to donate these types of items so we can get them into the hands of people who can truly use them.

The thrift store has also extended a helping hand to the Children’s Home Society to assist them in clothing their homeless families, and giving free toys to the children too.

We are continuing to help do the same with the rape crisis center and the domestic violence center.   We also assist these agencies with care of the clients’ animals. I feel that by doing so with these  fine and worthy organizations we are truly being The Humane Society of Marion County.

I want to extend an invitation to each and every one of you to come and visit me here at the store.. I’m at the store all day Saturday and will love to share the excitement we have.

I also want to extend an invitation for you to volunteer here at the store, for we need wonderful help to sort, price and display the treasures that have been donated and are continuing to be donated to this wonderful organization.
